Beware of the double chin!

Chance is now 5 weeks old, and we definitely think he is looking bigger, weighing in at 4lbs 4 oz. We've been anxiously waiting for that adorable double chin to come.

This is Chance being thrilled that he no longer needs a feeding tube. As of Oct. 16 he is eating all on his own!!

One Month

Here are some pictures taken when Chance was one month old.

He has finally graduated to an open crib- yay!!

And he has definitely learned how to create quite an aroma!

Adorable Pictures

Here are some of the more artsy pictures
that we think are just so cute.

(you can click on any picture to make it larger)

Chance already knows what to do when Mom starts taking too many pictures! ;)

First time bottle feeding

Two weeks after Chance was born, he started nursing and bottle feeding. He immediately knew what to do and has been getting better and better at it ever since!

Dad worked so hard to get all the milk down without wasting a drop! He also had to make sure that Chance got enough breaks to remember to breath AND swallow all at the same time. Chance is so premature that he hadn't quite developed that skill yet.

By the way, if you want to see a picture better, just click on it and it will become bigger.

First Clothes

After 10 days of life, Chance finally decided to put a shirt on. Actually it fit more like a dress!

Then Grandma Johnson found some clothes that actually fit him. So here is his first real outfit- a sleeper. We were so excited! We love the new clothes for Chance- thanks Reva!

The Grandparents

Grandma Perkins came out to visit from Sept. 10 to Oct. 1. Grandma and Grandpa Johnson came out on Sept. 21 to Sept. 24. We were so grateful to have them come out! They were extremely helpful! They were thrilled to get to know their newest grandson and Chance loved being held by them.

Uncle Dan (Eric's bro) and Jen also came to visit Chance. Unfortunately we didn't get a picture of them to post here, but we loved having them visit!

Breathing Machines

Thankfully with each passing day, Chance made steady progress. :)

As he needed less and less help breathing, he graduated to different machines. He started out on a Ventilator, then moved to a Bi-Pap then C-Pap then the Nasal Canula.

After about two weeks Chance was breathing completely on his own without help from any machines.

Camille goes home

After staying in the hospital for 5 days after the C-section,
plus the two weeks before Chance's birth, Camille finally went home! Though she was still very dependant on the help of Eric and her mom. Thank goodness Mom flew out when she did! She arrived the day before Chance was born, I guess she just knew she was going to be needed! Talk about mother's intuition. :)

Chance's first week

For the first week of Chance's life we didn't see his face much because it was covered by all the tubes and a pair of sweet sunglasses that protected his eyes from the jaundice lights shining on him.

Chance's first day

On September 11, 2006 at 9:28 AM in the morning, a miracle by the name of Chance Eric Johnson entered our lives.
Life was a little rough for the first eight minutes until the doctors were able to get Chance breathing and his heartrate up.
Chance weighed in at whopping 2 pounds and 9 ounces and was 15 1/2 inches long.
